On Tuesday 20th June 2023 the students and staff of Diakonia Training institute congregated for our termly assembly and orientation meeting. As custom, this sessions are meant to foster better social bonds among students and staff; as well as to share our observations, policies and other important communique.
This semester’s session was hosted at our main campus in Shalom House, Nairobi, where the new student got a deeper understanding of who we are and what we stand for. Diakonia, A Greek word for Service, aims to provide marketable training to students who form a backbone of the society in being the changemakers through the services they offer once they’re through with their studies.
In our quest to provide and gain knowledge and skills, it was agreed that there are numerous challenges all the parties involved are likely to face. However, in our quest to overcome these challenges, we were all reminded not to compromise on our dignity, quality of service orour humanity.
During this session the Diakonia fraternity fellowshipped together and were also oriented into how the system works. The lecturers led the session in giving the students education and life advice, within and beyond the confines of the college. The principal, Mr. Kevin Menya, also too the opportunity to inform the students about the developments in the college, as well as encourage students currently enrolled in short courses to enroll for other courses such as beauty therapy and hairdressing; as well as ICDL.
Also announced during the assembly were the changes in syllabus to a few KNEC courses were offer; as well as the upcoming calendar events – Academic trip and graduation.
